Summer Nights

Acrylics on Canvas, finished with a Satin varnish. Ready to hang.

Inspired by the breathtaking beauty of Cycladic sunsets, this painting captures the moment just after the sun has slipped below the horizon, when the sky still glows with deep reds and violets reflected in the clouds. The interplay of color and movement evokes both serenity and energy — that magical transition between day and night.

Many viewers tell me they see neurons in this piece. Perhaps my background in Neuroscience — and my earlier work as a sleep researcher — has found its way onto the canvas subconsciously. Others see flowers — perhaps poppies, which grow in abundance in my home region of Macedonia. Because of their association with sleep-inducing opium, poppies often symbolize dreams, imagination, and the delicate boundary between consciousness and the subconscious.

What do you see — neurons, poppies, or both?

Please note that the actual colors may vary slightly from the digital representation.
