Mixed media (acrylics) on canvas. Comes ready to hang. Finished with a professional satin varnish.
Gate to Greece I is an abstract painting inspired by Astypalaia, the Greek island often called the “Butterfly of the Aegean.”
Created from the longing for Greece before I had ever reached the island myself, the painting became an imagined passage towards the Aegean: deep blue water, sunlight, openness and a slower rhythm of life.
Flowing structures, layered blues and luminous accents create a sense of movement and depth, while the composition opens like a gateway into another world. For me, it captures that familiar feeling of looking towards Greece from afar and wanting to step straight into the sea, light and freedom associated with it.
Seen on its own, the work creates a strong sense of openness and movement. Together with Gate to Greece II, it forms a complementary pair whose shapes seem to approach and respond to one another.
Ideal for a modern living room, hallway, bedroom or office, Gate to Greece I brings depth, Mediterranean atmosphere and a feeling of freedom into the space.
