Gate to Greece II continues the visual journey towards Astypalaia, the “Butterfly of the Aegean.”

The painting was created from memory, imagination and longing for Greece - not as a literal landscape, but as the feeling of approaching a place associated with sea, light, freedom and belonging.

Its flowing blue structures and organic movement evoke currents, coastlines and the constantly changing surface of the Aegean. At the same time, the open composition creates the impression of a passage: a threshold between everyday life and somewhere lighter, wider and more free.

At the vernissage where the work was first shown, a visitor remarked that Gate to Greece I & II together reminded them of a butterfly - an association I especially loved because Astypalaia itself is famous for its butterfly-like shape.

Gate to Greece II works beautifully as an individual statement piece, but it can also be displayed alongside Gate to Greece I as a connected pair.
